AS Exam Structure – Section A

Don’t forget everyone that the AS exam is on this THURSDAY 19th May at 0900. I will meet you in the common room first thing in the morning.

As you know, the exam is TWO hours long. The first 30 minutes will be a screening of a TV Drama, which will be shown FOUR times. Do not make notes on the first screening. Follow the instructions on the screen.

After the four screenings you will then have 45 minutes to write your answer to the question. You will then have 45 minutes to answer Section B but remember, no one will actually tell you it is time to start Section B so you have to time this yourself.

Section A will ask you to discuss how an area of representation is portrayed in the TV Drama clip with reference to the technical aspects of moving image:

  • Mise-en-scene
  • Position/movement of the camera
  • Editin
  • Sound

You job is write about how the above is used to portray the area of representation. They could be:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Ethnicity
  • Sexuality
  • Class and Status
  • Physical ability/disability
  • Regional identity

Remember, you have to time the exam yourself.

Good luck.
